TVS Motorcycle Ltd is a major Indian bike manufacturer and certain TVS bikes have been available in South Africa for about a year. BikeSA were pleased to be asked to evaluate these bikes recently and our review of the Apache RTR 180 and the Flame SR125 was reported in the last issue. The TVS company has recently released an update of its trading performance for last year and the following is a brief outline from their press release.
The financial year ending March 2009 saw TVS Motor increase bike sales, products, profits and it’s global presence.
Bike sales increased from 1.3M in 2008-09 to over 1.5M in the last year making it the second largest bike manufacturer in India
The companies total revenues grew in the year by 18% from R6Billion to over R7Billion and it’s operating profits before tax grew impressively to R200Million from R55Million in the previous year.
TVS now export to 57 countries worldwide, which includes the introduction of their bikes into South Africa through it’s exclusive Agent, Sneax (PTY) Ltd (see www.tvsbikes.co.za). This makes them a top 10 global player and in spite of the poor economic climate, they were showing continuous growth figures in the international sector by the end of the year
On the hardware front, TVS launched new products in the motorcycle sector during the year with the introduction of the Apache RTR 180, which won India’s “Motorcycle of the Year” in 2010 (and is available in SA), and the innovative TVS Jive, which is India’s first auto-clutch bike. The latter should be available for import into SA in early 2011
